Nagaland: Regional Review Meeting of GFATM Project States underway

Dimapur, March 17 (MExN): A three-day Regional Review Meeting of GFATM (Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria) Project States commenced at Niathu Resort, Dimapur on March 16. Delegates from Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and various North East states will be participating in this review meeting from March 16 to 18. 

The Regional Review Meeting is organised by National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control, Department of Health & Family Welfare, stated an update received here. 

Dr Neisakho Kere, Jt Director, and State Programme Officer (NVBDCP)  initiated the meeting by welcoming the delegates while Dr Rinku Sharma, Jt. Director, HoD Malaria Division, NVBDCP, Delhi presented the Status of Malaria in the 10 GFATM Project States.

Dr Rinku briefly highlighted the background and milestones in Malaria Programme in India since its inception in 1953 and the goals and targets to achieve total malaria elimination by the year 2030. She also presented the Malaria Elimination Progress in India since 2015 to 2022. She stated that both the high malaria case reporting states and low or zero malaria case reporting states will be focus in this elimination programme. 

She presented State-wise Malaria Reporting Status and informed that a total of 103 Entomological Zones were identified in India which is support by the GFATM and the Government of India. She also urged all the states to implement IHIP (Integrated Health Information Platform) Malaria Portal which is a real time reporting of malaria cases entered via the IDSP (Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme) Portal. She further informed the states to designate one person to cross check the entries on a daily basis.

Later, delegates from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Nagaland states presented their respective State’s Vector Borne Diseases Status, their achievements, and gaps and challenges faced in the implementation of Intensified Malaria Elimination Project-2 (IMEP-2).

Similar State-wise presentations by the state of Mizoram, Tripura, Manipur, and Odisha will be followed on day two along with feedbacks from National Consultants and discussions on specific issues. 

On the third day, High Level Review cum Dissemination Meeting will be held with Minister of Health & Family Welfare P Paiwang Konyak as chief guest. Other officials attending this meeting will be YKikheto Sema, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, Department of H&FW, Dr Vibeituonuo M Sachu, Principal Director, Dr Tanu Jain, Director, NCVBDC, MoHFW, GoI, and DrRitu Thurr, Mission Director, NHM Nagaland. 

The Regional Review Meeting of GFATM will resume with session on sub national malaria elimination and validation, and presentations on special interventions and developing District Action Plans.
