NBCC WD & DBWU celebrate International Women’s Day

The NBCC Women Department and Dimapur Baptist Women Union (DBWU) celebrated International Women’s Day this afternoon here, at Town Baptist Church. The church was packed with women from different Baptist churches in Dimapur, all dressed for the occasion with a hint of white as the dress code.

Held under this year’s theme ‘DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality,’ Khontele Seb, President, DBWU spoke on how far technology has been successful in reaching out to all women in the Naga women context.

Stressing on gender equality, she said that education has given access to girls to be at par with the rest of the world. Seb also recalled the year of COVID-19 which exposed the disparity among women in the urban areas and women in rural areas. She said that women in the villages could not experience the advantages of technology that this year’s theme aims to achieve.

However, Seb recalled how far women have come in achieving many milestones and breaking barriers throughout history. She said that times have now changed and women have the right to vote and the right to education for the girl child, breaking gender stereotype in the field of science and technology, churches, in entrepreneurship and the corporate world etc.

Stating that we are celebrating the past, present and the future, Seb at the same time also highlighted the cases of many women who are still suffering and being oppressed in their daily lives.

She said that this is where we as women need to come together and show support to women across the globe. “When we join hands, women can do so many unimaginable things,” she said.

On the use of technology, she said that mothers should take care of screen-time of their children. She shared concern that everybody is getting drunk on smartphones and there is hardly any family time at home. “Our natural mind given by God stops working which is against the biblical principles,” she said while adding that “our habits and relationships should be centered on God.”

Seb further talked about Deborah and Esther from the Bible and urged the women to cultivate the habit of reading the Bible and to “feed the world of God” to their children as well. Regretting the laid-back attitude of the people, she said that the Nagas’ Christianity has become paralysed and there is no more any voice on the wrongs and evils in the society.

She called upon the congregation that it was now time to recommit ourselves to strive for truth, integrity and equality keeping in mind the image of how God created man and woman with their own set of responsibilities.

The occasion witnessed special presentation from Miqlat Staff and Dimapur Police Baptist Church. Tesinle Lorin, Dimapur Rengma Baptist Church and Jubilee Music Committee, DBWU presented songs, while Dimapur Meitei Baptist Church presented choreography themed on God’s love.

Earlier during the programme, Visasieu Dolie, Women Secretary NBCC gave the welcome address and Neithonuo Savino, Women Pastor, Kuda Village Baptist Church invoked God’s blessings. The programme was chaired by Khetoni Shikhu, Associate Pastor Women, Dimapur Sumi Baptist Church.
