Commits to ‘fairness and justice’ in discharge of duties

La Ganesan was sworn-in today as the new Governor of Nagaland. He was administered the oath by Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Songkhupchung Serto at Raj Bhavan, Kohima.

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Speaker Sharingain Longkumer, Chief Secretary J Alam, Director General of Police Rupin Sharma and several other dignitaries attended the swear-in ceremony.

In his speech, the Governor said that he would uphold the highest traditions of this “exalted position,” and will work for the principles that are sacred to “our democratic values.” “In the light of the Constitution, I will discharge my duties with utmost sincerity. I also commit fairness and justice, in the discharge of my functions,” he said. 

Nagaland, he stated, is a beautiful State, and the rich cultural traditions of its talented people, add a distinct colour to the diversity and splendour of India. Ganesan also stressed that peace is essential for growth and prosperity. “We need to facilitate a conducive social environment to enable the willing participation of all sections of society, for inclusive development. We need to ensure the highest standards of governance built on the principles of transparency and accountability,” he stated. 

Gansesan called for investing in people’s capabilities and empowering them with modern education and comprehensive health care. 

Meanwhile the Governor urged all the citizens of Nagaland to “proudly exercise” their franchise on February 27 and participate in the “world’s largest festival of Democracy.”
