Recalling his decision to accept the additional post of Governor of Nagaland, Prof Mukhi said that he was aware that he would be assuming an enormous responsibility, which consisted essentially in protecting and strengthening its institutional capital. It was, he said, a major task, that started precisely by introducing transparency and efficiency that would protect the State’s autonomy.

The outgoing Governor stated that he has been inspired and energised by his interactions with citizens during his visits across the State, and that he received full cooperation, support and blessings from all sections of society. Stating that corruption is the enemy of development and good governance; he called for both the Government and the people to come together to achieve this national objective.

Prof Mukhi exhorted all to continue strengthening the State to raise it to higher level. He thanked the legislators, head of departments and all the staff, for the support shown to him during his tenure.

Commissioner, Nagaland, T Mhabemo Yanthan, IAS said that Prof Mukhi during his tenure extensively toured the State, meeting and personally interacting with different sections of society. He has been a big encouragement to every sector, particularly defence personnel manning the international border, he stated, and said that Prof Mukhi has been a strong advocate of self-reliance in agriculture, women empowerment, youth entrepreneurship and connectivity.

Yanthan also lauded the outgoing Governor for promptly closing down the illegal check gates run by unauthorised elements immediately on assuming office, which he said has helped in reducing burdens faced by the business community.

Chief Secretary, J Alam, IAS stated that Governor Prof Mukhi’s tenure of about one and half years may look relatively small, but in terms of impact on many key aspects of governance of the State, it has been very significant. His wisdom, vast experience and knowledge of finance were instrumental in guiding the affairs of the State towards greater efficiency and effectiveness, he stated.

The Chief Secretary credited the Governor for accelerating the pace of infrastructure projects such as the 4 lane Dimapur-Kohima road project. He further stated that the Governor showed concern for the people living in border areas during his tour to various districts of the State.

Later the outgoing Governor was accorded the Rashtriya Salute by the Nagaland Police contingents at Assam Rifles Helipad, Kohima before his departure to Assam.
