Dimapur, February 13 (MExN): With the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly elections fast approaching, various elections related activities continue to be taken up in various parts of the poll bound state.
Zunheboto: In this connection, General and Expenditure Observers for Zunheboto held a meeting with the candidates and their representatives at the DC’s Conference hall, Zunheboto, according to updates from the state DIPR.
Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer of Zunheboto district informed the political parties that prior permission has to be taken in order to carry out any poll related activities like processions, rallies, etc. Travel permit will also be issued for travelling during the poll day, the DEO stated.
GO Amit Kumar emphasized on maintaining transparency and peaceful process of the election and also informed about the cVIGIL app for putting up any complaints related to poll. He urged for cooperation and support from all the candidates.
General observer Raj Kumar also interacted with the candidates and their representatives while Expenditure Observer Harish Kumar explained about expenditure to be made and its procedures during the election.
Meanwhile, SP Vishal Chauhan said that there are sufficient forces with more than 5500 armed police forces and CAPF personnel to conduct free and fair election. Informing that checking of vehicles and other activities are fully on, he also informed that no illegal activities would be tolerated during the election period.
Representative of the candidates also interacted and presented their views with the observer, SP and DC and DEO Zunheboto.
Wokha: As per the DIPR, Wokha DC and DEO Ajit Kumar Ranjan held a coordination meeting with leaders of Chukitong Range on February 12. He was accompanied by SP Aotula T Imchen and Returning Officer for 37th Tyui A/C. Village Council Chairmen, VCMs, GBs, Senior citizens, Youth organisations and various civil societies of Chukitong Range attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the DC and DEO appealed leaders of Chukitong area to extend co-operation to the Law enforcement agencies and government departments and also urged all the citizens of the area not to involve in any electoral offence and violence so that the forthcoming election can be conducted in a free, fair and peaceful atmosphere.
The DC also called upon all the citizens of the district to create an atmosphere such that all voters can freely come out on the polling day and exercise their franchise in a democratic manner.
Kohima: Similarly, training for maintenance of accounts of Election Expenditure by the contesting candidates/election agents was conducted on February 11 in Kohima.
Addressing the Trainees, RO for 10 Northern Angami- I A/C and ADC Kohima, Rhosietho Ngouri requested them to work together as a team for the successful conduct of election process and sought their active support and cooperation for the whole process.
Various election officials gave presentations on Election Expenditure while EO Shyam Kumar also spoke on Inspection on Accounts and a Q & A session was carried out by EO Samatha Mullamudi.
Handbook on Monitoring of Expenditure registration for maintenance of day to day Accounts of Election Expenditure by contesting candidates was also distributed to all the trainees.
Longleng: Meanwhile, the Longleng DC has informed all the polling personnel, drivers, cleaners others of 49 Tamlu AC and 50 Longleng AC appointed for election duty in Longleng district that the last date for submission of form 12 along with a photocopy of EPIC Card and Appointment/Requisitioned Order to the Facilitation center at DCs Office, Longleng HQ (PB Call First Floor) is extended to February 12.
The DIPR also informed that the Election Commission of India has approved the proposal for re-location of polling station 1 Ladigarh of 49 Tamlu (ST) AC in Longleng. However, it did not mention where the relocated polling station was located.
Upcoming activities: As per the DIPR, the EO for Dimapur Suboth Singh, along with the ROs of 1-Dimapur I, 2-Dimapur II and 3- Dimapur III Assembly Constituencies will be undertaking inspection on February 14, 20, and 24 respectively.
Stating that the inspection would take place at the DC’s Office, Dimapur, from 11:00 am onwards, it informed candidates to furnish Day to Day Accounts of Expenditure by the contesting candidates (Annexure- E 1) for inspection by EO and Returning Officers.
Further, it informed that a one-day media workshop on Election Reporting will be held at Hotel Vivor, Kohima on February 14, 10:30 am.
Additional Director & HoD IPR, Dzüvinuo Theünuo will deliver the Introduction to the Workshop, followed by an Address by CEO Nagaland, Shashank Shekhar.
In the training sessions, Senior Journalist, Sunzu Bachaspatimayum will speak on the topic of Challenges and Opportunities in Election Coverage. Editor-in-Chief, East Mojo Karma Paljor will address Elections and Media in Digital Times while Joint Director IPR, Asangla Imsong will conduct the Interactive Session.
