25 nominations rejected, 16 withdrawn

183 candidates are in fray for the upcoming general election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA).
Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), V Shashank Shekhar informed this during a press conference here on the last day of withdrawal of nominations on February 10.
Addressing a press conference here this evening at de Oriental Grand Hotel, Shekhar informed that out of 255 nominations, 25 nominations have been rejected and out of 200 valid nominations, 16 have withdrawn the nominations.
Out of a total of 184 candidates, the CEO informed that in 31 Akuluto AC, Kazheto Kinimi was elected unopposed. As such, 183 candidates will now contest for the election.
Out of 183 candidates, there are four women candidates this time—one each from Dimapur-III, Tenning, Western Angami and Atoizu Assembly Constituencies.
The party wise candidates for the polls included: Bharatiya Janata Party (20), Communist Party of India (1), Indian National Congress (23), Nationalist Congress Party (12), National People Party (12), Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (40), Naga People’s Front (22), Rising People’s Party (1), Janata Dal (United) (7), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (15), Republican Party of India (Athawale) (9), Rashtriya Janata Dal (3), and 19 independent candidates.
Three Assembly constituencies have the highest number of contesting candidates (6 candidates each). They include 6 Tenning, 39 Sanis and 45 Tehok.
The CEO said that all efforts have been made by enforcement agencies as well as the state police to control any inducement, any wrong doing or influencing of voters. CEO Nagaland was hopeful that there will be peaceful, free and fair elections with the cooperation of all the stakeholders.
Polling will be held on February 27 and counting of votes will take place on March 2.
16 candidates withdraw nomination
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 10 (MExN): The CEO Nagaland today informed that 16 candidates have withdrawn from the upcoming Nagaland Assembly Elections. Polls for the NLA are scheduled to be held on February 27. Friday was the last date for withdrawal of candidatures.
A press release from the CEO informed that list of candidates who withdrew are P Engo Konyak (RPI A) from 47 Aboi; HB Moba (LJP Ram Vilas) from 55 Tobu; Kelhouneizo Yhome (Independent) from 10-Northern Angami-1; L Shiakpong Konyak (Independent) from 55 Tobu; Y Belong Chingmei (Independent) from 50 Longleng; R Kilimong Yimchunger (Independent) from 60 Pungro Kiphire; Kishan Lal Gupta (Independent) from 1 Dimapur-I; Supu Jamir (Independent) from 2 Dimapur-II; Er L Tongpang Longkumer (Independent) from 24 Angetyongpang; N Khekashe Sumi (INC) from 31 Akuluto; YM Yollow Konyak (LJP Ram Vilas) from 42-Wakching; Thongwang Konyak (JDU) from 46 Mon Town; Kyupise Sangtam (Independent) from 59-Seyochung Sitimi; P Mulang (INC) from 56 Noklak; Kenyuseng Tep (Independent) from 12 Tseminyu; and Gwalozu Kath (Independent) from 12 Tseminyu.
