Kohima, February 9 (MExN): Endorsing the Clean Election Movement initiated by the Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) and the Model Code of Conduct enforced by the Election Commission of India, the Kohima Village Council (KVC) has said that the same should be followed in the ensuing General Elections in the 10 Northern Angami I Assembly Constituency, to be held on February 27.
In this connection, the Council issued a set of directives stating that anyone involved in the electioneering process “Shall not buy votes with money; Shall not insist/force Clan, Khel, Village, or Family to declare support for a particular candidate; Shall not bribe voters with monetary or materials.”
The KVC also prohibited distribution of alcohol or other intoxicants to voters as well as setting up of camps in the Colony, Khel, or Wards.
Further, it also prohibited ‘proxy voting,’ use of force, intimidation, and undue influence on voters, booth capturing and any other activities which are unbecoming of any political party.
“Outsiders who are not genuine voters will not be allowed to disrupt the voting process,’ stated the directive which was issued by KVC Chairperson Helievio Solo.
The directives have been issued for a free and fair election, it added.
