Measures, regulations in place to ensure alcohol-drug free Electioneering process, maintains dept
Dimapur, January 20 (MExN): With the enforcement of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) following the announcement of date for Assembly Elections on January 18, the Nagaland Excise Department in a public notice has informed the general public and local residential authorities to report any use of alcohol during the Election Campaign to the enforcement authority.
The department further urged the public to give information on any suspected activity such as stockpiling, location of illicit liquor godowns etc, stated the notice issued by the Commissioner of Excise, H Atokhe Aye.
Any such information may be conveyed to official no: 8974318888 (Asstt. Commr. Enforcement), it added.
The notice further informed that Check gate vigilance and surveillance have been intensified and tightened and regular frisking operations of suspected vehicles would be the order of the day.
“General public as well as commercial and private vehicles carrying any kind of contraband will be penalised as per the law,” it said.
Commercial shops, restaurants, hotels, lodgings etc would be subjected to frequent checking’s and surprise inspections and defaulters would be penalised with punitive measures and process would be initiated for cancellation of licenses by the competent authority, the notice said.
There will be regular round the clock 24×7 MVCP and STF patrols in all the Districts, it added.
According to the department, the regulations and measures are put in place to ensure an alcohol and drug free Electioneering process in the State and sought and cooperation from the public.
Meanwhile, the State Excise Department as part of the Election Expenditure Monitoring (EEM) for the ensuing Assembly Election has been enforcing the Liquor Prohibition and Drugs detection throughout the State of Nagaland, the notice said.
On January 19, the three units of Mobile Squad, Narcotic Cell and Dimapur District Excise conducted lightning raids in and around Dimapur town and accordingly seized 4560 bottles of assorted IMFL, it said.
In this connection, 24 accused persons were arrested and penalised under the relevant section of the NLTP Act’1989, it added.
