Members of the Angami Public Organization (APO) extended humanitarian assistance to Nagas of Myanmar taking shelter in Noklak District on November 24. The APO members in Noklak met representatives of the Nagas of Myanmar in Noklak along with civil society members and handed over financial assistance to the families.
APO President Razouvoto Chatsu informed The Morung Express that there were over 160 people currently taking shelter in different areas in Noklak with their family members. Stating that ‘our people’ have lived in solidarity and shared good relationship with the Nagas of Myanmar in the past, he said it was necessary to extend help during times of need.
APO members while interacting with their group said they encouraged them not to lose hope and that their Naga brothers continue to have concern for their well-being.
The APO also appreciated the Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) for shouldering responsibilities on behalf of the Nagas and further thanked the KTC members for assisting the APO to meet the Nagas of Myanmar in Noklak district. During the visit, 7 members from APO were present.
Ever since the military coup toppled the NLD government in Myanmar in February 2021, at least 165 refugees who crossed the border into Nagaland continue to take shelter in the border district of Noklak and Dimapur district. Myriad challenges due to lack of livelihood, amenities compounded by trauma and the worry for other family members who have remained in Myanmar keep them hoping against hope as they lean for survival here in Nagaland.
