President Murmu winds up two day visit to Nagaland

Ending her two day visit to Nagaland, President of India, Droupadi Murmu today experienced the culture and lifestyle of villagers in Kigwema near Kohima.

During her visit, Murmu interacted with the Village Council members, Self Help Groups (SHGs) and agriculturists at Kigwema village Council Hall. She also visited exhibition stalls put up by SHGs, coordinated by Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission under the Rural Development Department and Kigwema village. She witnessed the traditional way of weaving, demonstrated by Kigwema women. 

On her arrival, she was received by Nagaland Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Advisor Medo Yhokha and village leaders.

Chief Minister Rio thanked Murmu for visiting the village and expressed that it was a proud moment for the people of Kigwema. He hoped that she will carry back good memories of visiting the village.

Rio stated that the Government of India has been helping the state with various policies and programmes, particularly MGNREGA, PMJSY – Road activities and livelihood support to all villages in Nagaland.

Under the Upadhyay Panchayat Sashakti Karan Puraskar (DDUPSP), Rio said that Kigwema village was selected as the best village in 2021 and has been doing well in other schemes.
 
Plea for national standard level playground, 4 lane road
Kigwema Village Council Chairman Balie Kire while welcoming the President said that the village is diligently partnering with the Central and State Governments in various initiatives, policies, developmental works, and agendas.

He urged the President to support and look into the long-cherished desire of the people to have a National Standard Level Playground located between Zakhama Military Station and Kigwema Village.

He also told the President about the appeal made to have a 4 National Highway by the people of the area during the visit of the then President of India, Late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam in 2002 and requested Murmu to genuinely take the request and upgrade the existing Highway into 4 Lane.
 
Visit to Kohima War Cemetery
Earlier, the President visited Kohima War Cemetery and paid homage to the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice. She laid a wreath to show her honour and respect to the fallen heroes.

The President was accompanied by the Governor of Assam and Nagaland Prof Jagdish Mukhi, Minister of Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue, Parliamentary Affairs Neiba Kronu, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom, Minister of Soil & Water Conservation V Kashiho Sangtam, Chief Secretary J Alam, Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha, Secretary Art & Culture, Athel O Lotha IAS, ADGP (Nagaland, Law, and Order) Sandeep M Tamgade IPS, IGP Assam Rifles, Vikas Lahera, and others.

After visiting Kigwema, she left Kohima today for Mizoram.
