Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today urged the support of the President of India, Droupadi Murmu in resolving the long pending political issue.
Speaking during the Civic Reception in honour Droupadi Murmu, organized by the state government at Capital Cultural Hall, Kohima on November 2, the CM mentioned that the Framework Agreement of 3rd August, 2015 signed between the Government of India and NSCN (IM) and the Agreed Position of November, 2017 by the NNPGS was signed recognising the unique history and position of the Nagas.
“We are hopeful that we will have an early solution to the Naga political issue, which we are sure will give a boost to our youth and people to contribute much more to the Nation’s economy through their God given rich talent and genius,” Rio said.
Stating that ceasefire and dialogue with the Naga political groups have been continuing for 26 years, he said, “We seek your gracious support in resolving the long pending political issue.”
Rio also highlighted that Nagaland is the second oldest State in the North East and was formed in 1963. “Our State has made big leaps in development since then and our people are much better off economically today. There is, however, much which is still to be done for which we seek your guidance and support,” he said.
Earlier, the CM thanked Murmu for visiting Nagaland and the other North Eastern states so soon after becoming the President of India. “It shows your deep concern for the people of Nagaland and the Northeast,” Rio said.
“Your election as the President of the largest democracy in the world has sent a very positive message to the rest of the World about the inclusive nature of our polity,” he added.
Rio thanked Government to India for the special provisions extended to Nagaland by incorporating Article 371 A in the Constitution of India, whereby land and its resources are protected as also our traditional customs and practices.
