Pledge to render ‘whole hearted assistance’ to reconciliation process
Dimapur, October 9 (MExN): In a significant development, the Naga apex organisations as well as the Church came together on October 8 and extended support to the “September Joint Accordant” and pledged to render ‘whole hearted assistance to reconciliation process.’
The “September Joint Accordant” was signed on September 14 by the National Socialist Council of Nagalim/Government of the Peoples’ Republic of Nagalim (NSCN/GPRN) and the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (WC, NNPGs).
At the meeting held on October 8, the Naga apex organisations and the Church also vowed that the Naga public will further render “whole hearted assistance” to the reconciliation process for the NSCN (IM) and WC, NNPGs to find “common ground and mutually agree on a relationship of cooperation based on the Naga historical and political rights in order to move forward.”
The meeting held under the initiative of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) was held with a realisation that Naga people must “change by acting in hope and acknowledging one another as people of common belonging in the moment for the future,” informed a statement released after the meeting.
“Heretofore, the public in sincere trust await the fulfillment of the ‘September Joint Accordant’ by the signatories in ‘letter and in spirit’,” it added.
The signatories of the meeting, in alphabetical order, were All Naga Students Association, Manipur; Central Nagaland Tribes Council; Don Bosco Society; Forum for Naga Reconciliation; Global Naga Forum; Naga Christian Forum, Manipur; Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation; Naga Hoho; Nagaland Joint Christian Forum; Naga Mother’s Association; Naga Students’ Federation; Nagaland Tribes Council; Tenyimi Peoples’ Organisation and United Naga Council.
To recollect, the ‘September Joint Accordant,’ signed by representatives of NSCN (IM) and WC, NNPGs on September 14 with the FNR as the facilitator, among others, pledged to honour the “Covenant Of Reconciliation” (CoR) of June 13, 2009—signed by the late Isak Chishi Swu, late SS Khaplang , and Brig (Retired) S. Singnya in “letter and in spirit.”
The Naga Political Groups further pledged to renew “to work together in the spirit of love,” and desist from all forms of armed violence and refrain from indulging in violence of words through print and social media among Naga Political Groups and the general public.
“From this time forth, in order to chart a path forward, we remain committed to ‘peace and respect and to resolve outstanding issues among us’ (CoR), it added.
The NSCN (IM) and WC, NNPGs further declared to guard against rifts that further divide them and committed to find ways to “transcend our differences through cooperation, to be worked out in future meetings, on the basis of the CoR.”
They further urged the all individuals and organisations “to refrain from all forms of rhetoric, assumptions and agendas that are divisive.”
