Dimapur, October 9 (MExN): The Rising People’s Party on Saturday said it would undertake much needed reforms in the education sector and overhaul what it termed as “the state’s dirtiest department,” once the party comes to power.
In a press release, the RPP said that when voted to power, it would set up a Teachers’ Selection Board, as the selection of teachers (up to higher secondary level) falls neither under the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) nor the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) at present.
“After the written stage is over, there will be an arduous Interview stage where the interviewers will be a set of empanelled university professors. The interviewers’ position is not permanent but on rotation basis and for a fixed period,” it added.
Accordingly, the RPP stated that “All ghost and proxy teachers will be identified and action taken,” and the teachers’ service rules would be suitably amended in order to make litigations ‘a thing of the past.’
Stating that School Management Committees (SMCs) have become “dens of corruption,” the RPP said that it would do away with communitization of teaching and discontinue SMCs. The post of Principal Director in the Department of School Education will be done away with and the Director will be the Head of Department, it added.
“A ceiling on admission/monthly fees for all the private schools and colleges in the state,” the party stated.
Along with this, the RPP also stated that the post of Yoga Teacher in all government schools introduced by the NDPP-BJP Coalition would be abolished. “Factors responsible for alien cultural imprints will be stamped out,” it asserted.
Naga history and personalities from the North East region would be adequately reflected in the Nagaland Board of School Education curriculum in addition to diversification of curriculum – skill based – as per the aptitude of the student from class 8 onwards as per recommendation of the Mudaliar Commission, it said.
NPSC and NSSB reforms
Further, the Party stated that it would slash interview marks in the NCS exams from 55 to 25, to minimize manipulations in the interview stage. Similar steps would also be taken with other exams, it said. In terms of the NSSB, it said the Interview stage would be removed.
It said that a law would be enacted whereby all the vacant posts in the departments would be compulsorily requisitioned to the NPSC/NSSB. The present system of NPSC/NSSB having no tooth to requisition posts will be a thing of the past, it maintained.
All MCQ answer keys (prelims and mains) for both Civil and Technical exams will be declared within 15 days after examination.
Domain experts will be inducted as board members of the NPSC. There shall be no room for failed politicians or party workers in the board. Additionally, it will be made compulsory for the NPSC to maintain a fixed annual calendar for conduct of exams, it stated.
