Emergency meeting passes two resolutions
Dimapur, October 9 (MExN): The Western Sümi Youth Front (WSYF) held an emergency meeting at Kiyevi Village with representatives of 10 Western Sümi Areas and 16 units under WSYF on October 8.
According to a press release from the WSYF Media Cell, two resolutions were passed with regard to the dispute between Kiyevi and Lamhai Namdi village, and the “indifferent attitude of the State Government” towards the struggle and worries of Kiyevi Village.
Among others, the meeting resolved to stand strong and reiterate the three-week ultimatum issued to the State Government on September 21 by the WSYF under Western Sümi Hoho. “If due to this issue any unforeseen losses are incurred or if any lives of our Naga brothers and sisters are lost than the state government and the people of Lamhai will be solely responsible for it (Sic),” the WSYF release stated.
It further went on to state that it would neither take away even an inch of land that does not belong to them, nor would it let any encroachers take away even an inch of land that is rightfully theirs. “We will in any way protect and guard our land,” it asserted.
As per the release, WSYF President Mughavi Awomi, while delivering the presidential address, highlighted the purpose of the youth front and said that it was created in 2007 “so that they can stand for and protect the rights of the Sümi brothers and sisters.”
He said the WSYF has been writing to the Government of Nagaland to look into the issue but the government “apart from issuing 2 orders had never taken keen interest on whether the orders are wholly being implemented or not.”
Stating that the ultimatum would expire on October 13, he further cautioned that the “The WSYF will take issue in its hands for which it will not be responsible,” if the government does not take any steps.
“Awomi asserted that the government is creating tribalism within the Naga communities and shifting its responsibilities by earlier inviting 14 tribes and recently asking the CNTC and Tenyimi to resolve the issue,” the press release stated.
As per the release, the WSYF President also maintained that “this is not a land dispute as the land rightfully belongs to the people of Kiyevi Village but the land owner cannot plough their own land while the encroachers are fully developing with the help of the security forces placed by the state government.”
The WSYF said the state government’s inability to settle the issue was discriminative and biased against the Sümi tribe.
If the orders were implemented properly than the peace and order would have long been established in the tensed area and the Naga brothers and sisters would be living in peace and harmony with each other, the President stated, according to the release.
Meanwhile, others who spoke during the meeting included Assistant GBs Yevito Zhimo and Zheshito Swu while WSYF General Bohoi Yeptho chaired the meeting, and Otoka Yeptho, Vice President, WSYF delivered vote of thanks.
