Heavy rainfall lashed most of North-East and Nagaland on September 11, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting more in the next 3 days till September 14. The national weather agency attribute the current pattern to intensification of a low pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal.
As per the IMD’s All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin issued Sunday evening, rainfall/thundershower were observed on September 11 at most places over Jammu,Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal, Vidarbha and Coastal Karnataka; at many places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Chhattisgarh, Konkan & Goa, Telangana and North Interior Karnataka.
Accordingly, the IMD forecasted that similar weather pattern would be seen with thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty winds at isolated places Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on September 12.
Heavy rainfall “very likely” over Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on September 13, it added.
Similar forecast were made for September 14.
The rainfall pattern over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura from September 11-14 were designated as “Widespread (most places).
