Dimapur, September 11 (MExN): In accordance with the age-old Sumi customary law and ancestral practice, the Thahekhu village instated Samson Aye, as the GB of the village in a formal ceremony that was held in his residence at Thahekhu village on September 10.
Thahekhu village which is probably the biggest and largest village in Dimapur district had lost one of its GBs, H Tovito Ayemi, who passed away in the month of June this year. He is the younger brother of Samson Aye, the Thahekhu Village Council stated in a press release.
Western Sumi Baptist Churches Kuqhakulu, Executive Secretary, Rev Dr Phughoto Aye invoked God’s blessings upon the new village chief while Hukiye Yepthomi, Head GB, Thahekhu village, in presence of village elders, tribal and church leaders, conferred the authority on him by presenting him with a red blanket (GBs shawl) that signify responsibility and leadership.
Speaking on the occasion, Samson Aye pledged to work for the uplift and welfare of the village. Stating that it should be collective effort of all to bring forth social harmony and progress in the society and therefore urged the villagers to extend their co-operation and support to him for sole purpose of the growth of the society.
Speaking on behalf of the Thahekhu Village Council, former MLA Hewoto Y Awomi who is also the advisor of the council stated that the people of Thahekhu village would benefit immensely through the leadership of Samson.
Western Sumi Hoho, President, Shikaho Zhimo said, “Good leadership is prerequisite and said not only Thahekhu village alone but whole of Western Sumi is privileged to have an energetic man leading the people.”
Head GB of Khehokhu village, Hokiye Yeptho gave a brief background of how Thahekhu village was established in the year 1951 and that “the present generation must carry on the good works which the forefathers had done for the people.” Pishito Ayemi spoke on behalf of the Ayemi clan.
