59th Indo-Naga ceasefire day at Chedema Peace Camp

The Naga National Council (NNC) and Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) along with Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) today observed 59th Indo–Naga Ceasefire Day at Chedema Peace Camp in Kohima district.

Addressing the gathering, Takuyaba recalled the account of the ceasefire between the Government of India and Federal Government of Nagaland on 6th September, 1964. “Seeing the Satanic rule of the Indian Army, on a Nagaland Baptist Churches Council (NBCC) initiative, a ceasefire agreement was made between the Government of India and Federal Government of Nagaland on 6th September 1964,” he said.

He said that in 1972 (31st August), Government of India unilaterally abrogated the said ceasefire agreement but “the Federal Government of Nagaland and Naga National Council are still upholding the ceasefire agreement till date.”

Takuyaba said that “Nagas are not demanding sovereignty but defending its sovereignty and without protecting the rights of our Naga nation, the rights of citizens cannot be protected.”

He felt that Nagas need to realize that “we cannot exist without the existence of our nation. Our motherland is a divine gift, not our creation and our main duty is to become a member of the United Nations by upholding the NNC principle of non-violence and as such, not to destroy on our petty interests.”

The programme was chaired by NBCC school coordinator Imlong Chang while Wongtokiu, lead pastor, Yimkhiung Baptist Church Kohima pronounced scripture reading & prayer. Yimkhiung Baptist Church Kohima also presented “Special Praise.’

The programme also witnessed mass prayer for peace. Commissioning and blessing was led by Rev Dingshungngamang Kamei, Administrative Assistant, NBCC. Gen (Retd) Viyalie Metha, Kedahge FGN also present at the programme.
