Minister for Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue & Parliamentary Affairs, Nagaland, Neiba Kronu today announced that new land laws will be passed in the next state legislative assembly. “We are bringing new land laws because what we were using earlier is too old,” he said, adding that, the draft is ready and the bill would be passed in the coming assembly session.

In his special address during the valedictory session of the 2-day Nagaland CSR & Investment Conclave 2022 at the NBCC Convention Centre, he briefed the gathering on the history of the Naga Political Issue over the past several decades while exuding hope that there will be a solution.

On the landholding system in the state, he highlighted that it is a little bit different while adding that, “the land belongs to the village and the community.”

However, noting that, “now, there is peace and the investment and the banks have to come,” he dwelt on the scope of the unexplored resources in the state and cited petroleum, coal, limestone and other resources. “All these resources are ripe”, he stated. “Every one of you anywhere can come and invest,” he added in the context of bringing in new land laws.

He further impressed upon that everything can grow here while adding that “what grows here, the taste is also different whether it is honey, coffee, pineapple.” Stating that it is a win-win situation for everyone, he expressed hope that they will visit again. “I want you to be our ambassadors. As you go back, if you have seen something good about Naga people, tell others. If there’s something unpleasant, keep it with you,” he added.

Alemtemshi Jamir, CEO, Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN) noted that the people of Nagaland do need money and deserve to get whatever money that is available and due to them. He said there was no doubt that we are a social welfare state and the government is to provide the things that people need.

However, he observed that over the years, there have been changes in the mindset of the people. “People still expected, expect and they will still expect that government will do everything,” he pointed out but added that this CSR Conclave was held to tell the people that there is something beyond the government. “There are bigger things which are growing globally around us. Private sector is becoming bigger and bigger whereas the government role is shrinking,” he maintained.

With the private sector now seen as agents of change, he expressed that “we are grateful that all of you have made it possible for this dream that we had, to take place.” Putting across that the last two days have been very interesting and warm, he said, “in fact we have a list of expressions of interest already signed,” while many other negotiations are going on.

The Conclave, he maintained has opened the eyes of the people of Nagaland on the capabilities and possibilities of the private sector. “There is hope for our people,” he further remarked while stating hope that the corporate world will continue to show interest, and not only show interest but come forward to work together and change this small corner of India into a global location.

Kesonyu Yhome, IAS, Secretary, Works and Housing, Government of Nagaland, proposed the vote of thanks during the valedictory session.
