DIMAPUR, JULY 23 (MExN): The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has launched an online signature campaign for imposition of President’s Rule in Nagaland.

A press release from the RPP reminded that on May 12, the party had submitted a representation to the Government of India pleading for President’s Rule in Nagaland on grounds of financial emergency in the state.

“The situation has worsened a lot since then, and it’s only befitting that the RPP continue to raise the issue of PR on behalf of the suffering public,” it said.

The party has launched an online campaign to gather at least 10,000 signatures through the online portal change.org. The aim of this petition campaign is to collect the signatures and submit it to the Prime Minister of India to take resolute action, it added.

The RPP meanwhile said that “some of the dishonourable achievements of the UDA Coalition government” include Nagaland being the “worst performing State under 6 parameters (poverty, health, affordable energy, sustainable cities, industries and infrastructure) as per SDGI index of NITI Aayog 2021.”

It said that Nagaland was also the “worst performing State as per State Energy and Climate index (SECI) as per NITI Aayog 2022. Nagaland ranks 33rd out of 35 states & UTs.”

Other issues plaguing the State, as pointed out by the RPP include the “perpetual deficit state budget with the latest being minus Rs 2212.74 Crore for the year 2022-23;” non-payment of salaries of 1,30,000 government employees; fraudulent withdrawals reported by the CAG; dismal performance in the National Health Index, National Institutional Ranking framework and NITI Aayog India Innovative Index; the lack of High Court and Medical College; non implementation of CSS and non-release/parking of CSS funds in Civil Deposit (CDs); “breakdown of law & order;” and “rise in international smuggling cases.”

The RPP stated that imposition of President’s Rule in Nagaland “is the only solution to the ills of fiscal mismanagement and systemic corruption plaguing the state under the present UDA Coalition government.”
