Khuza & Mutsale villages end over 9 decades old land dispute

A boundary monolith between Khuza and Mutsale village was laid today in the presence of Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, NPF Legislature Party leader and Co-Chairman UDA, district administration, officials of Phek Area Public Organization (PAPO) and village leaders.

This monolith (stone pillar) stands as a testimony to the mutual commitment to live in harmony and fraternity between Khuza village and Mutsale village and the end of animosity and hostility.

The land dispute spanning more than 9 decades dating to the British era which witnessed confrontations and bloodshed, and seemed impossible to solve was amicably settled on April 29, 2021.

It was made possible through the goodwill initiatives of Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, MLA, 19th Phek Assembly Constituency; Zhopra Vero, Kedallo, NNC/FGN; Phek Area Public Organization, patronage of Razouvolie Dozo, Deputy Commissioner, Phek and the compliance and desire of the two villages whose leaders are remembered in this pillar, to live in peaceful coexistence.

After delivering speeches at the programme organized by PAPO, Mutsale Village Council Chairman, Zaneo Nienu and Khuza Village Council Chairman, Nesapra Vero shook hands as a symbolic gesture of peace between the two villages.

Speaking on the occasion, Azo said that peace is the need of the hour for Nagaland and Nagas. He said that Nagas are badly divided with problems such as tribalism, factionalism, groupism, individual disputes, boundary disputes etc. “If peace is not advocated among the Nagas, I will not be surprised if one fine day Nagas disintegrate,” he said. He also called upon the people to promote peace for all round development.

Phek Deputy Commissioner, Razouvolie Dozo expressed appreciation to both the villages for coming together for peace. Development will flourish through peaceful coexistence, he said and urged both villages to exercise trust and confidence with each other and move forward in all spheres of development.

Phek Superintendent of Police, Vesupra Kezo congratulated both the villages for coming together in peaceful settlement of the long standing boundary dispute.

Nekhusa Venuh, Convenor, Jury Board of PAPO urged both the parties to abide by the judgment order in letter and spirit.

Earlier, a prayer for laying of the boundary monolith was pronounced by Rev Puduhu Khusoh, Pastor, 5th NAP Baptist Church Phek. Pastor, Khuza Village Baptist Church and Pastor, Mutsale Village Baptist Church pronounced invocation and benediction prayers respectively. PAPO Finance Secretary, Shevohu Nienu proposed the vote of thanks.
