Nagaland: COVID rising steadily, positivity at 18%, 1 new death

COVID-19 appears to be making resurgence with Nagaland reporting a steady increase in cases since the start of July. From 2 active cases on June 30, the cumulative total stood at 52 on July 14, as per the state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme.

On July 14, the state reported 12 new cases with Kohima reporting 9, Dimapur- 2 and Mokokchung- 1. All the 12 new cases were detected via “self/random” tests. The sample positivity rate was 18.1 percent, rising from the previous day’s 9.2 percent.

With 23 active cases, Dimapur accounted for the majority of the cases. 19 were classified as asymptomatic, 2 mild and 2 others severe. Kohima had 16 cases with 14 classified as mild and 2 others asymptomatic. Mokokchung and Peren had 5 cases each, and Longleng had 3.

The month of July has so far reported 2 confirmed COVID fatalities with the latest reported on July 14 from Dimapur, taking the total deaths to 759. The IDSP has classified 4 other deaths as “non COVID death with COVID-19 positivity.”

Prior to July, the last time Nagaland recorded a COVID fatality was in May.
