Governor Mukhi reviews status of Medical College and HC Complex

KOHIMA, JULY 10 (MExN): Nagaland Governor, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi visited the site of the Medical College and High court Complex in Kohima on July 9 and reviewed the status of the construction and infrastructure reports.

A press release from the PRO, Raj Bhavan informed that the Governor raised concern over the “unsatisfactory development,” and probed over the delayed projects of the medical college and the high court.

The concerned officials briefed their grievances, while stating that the COVID-19 pandemic was also one of the reason for the delay, with other reasons being the non release of fund on time, land issues etc, which hampered the physical progress of the project.

On the medical college, the officials informed that based on the DPR prepared, the Central Government approved for grant of Rs 189 crore in 2014, in which the funding pattern was 90:10 by Central and State Government, respectively.

In Package A (Medical College within Rs 189 crores) infrastructure for medical college building, girls and boys Hostel (250 nos), residential apartment -200 Sqm (1 block -10 units), residential apartment -100 Sqm (8 blocks-48 units), dean’s residence , MS residence , sports block and library & lecture hall building (Rs 30 crores funding through The World Bank) were to be covered.

In Package B (Teaching Hospital), new 400 bedded teaching Hospital (Rs 177 crores funding through JICA), existing 100 bedded hospital up-gradation (funding through the State Government), mortuary, girls and boys hostel (250 nos), and intern hostel (100 nos) were included.

The officials assured that the projects will be completed soon and went on to assert that Naga Hospital will be upgraded and used as teaching hospital during the first 3 years and that medical college admissions will start from Aug-Sept 2023.

On the issue of the High Court Complex, the Governor was apprised about the background of the project. The work order for the construction of a new High Court Building Complex (Main High Court Building civil works) at Kohima was allotted to contractor M/s Vilelie Khamo & son on October 29, 2012 and now the stipulated target for completion is December 2022 (subjected to fund availability). Till date the fund released was only 21% of the total amount, whereas the physical progress stands at 72% today.

During the meeting the Governor was also assured that the main complex will be completed by the end of the year, provided fund is made available to the contractor.
