Impur, June 18 (MExN): A Clean Election Movement (CEM) exchange programme between the Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjum (KBBB) and the Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) was held on June 17 at Impur, the mission center of ABAM. The representatives of ABAM CEM, Staff, KBBB CEM, and Konyak civil bodies attended the programme.

According to a press release, during the introduction, Rev Dr Mar Pongener, Executive Secretary, ABAM, said that ‘the dishonesty of our electioneering system that halted us from progressing can be obliterated only by the practice of the truth during the election by the general public.’ Therefore, the Clean Election Movement is a direction towards a public movement, and we should work without any attrition, he added.

In the keynote address, Rev M Chemyuh Konyak, Executive Secretary, KBBB, said that elections in Nagaland have been deteriorating Nagas in all corners. ‘Our livelihood is being under threat due to the lack of good governance,’ he said, adding that the urgent need for the Nagas is to elect God-fearing, visionary, and persons with good character ‘who loves nothing but to do justice.’ He further said that the only way to elect good leaders is to say no to money, power, and employment promises, and only then the Nagas will have a future with a cluster of developments and opportunities for the young people in particular, the release stated.

Calling for Clean Election, C Nyamto, Convener, KBBB, CEM, and Rev Dr Noklen Lkr, Convener, ABAM, CEM said that both the associations are determined to work for a fair and clean election at any cost. Associations are also determined to maintain a clean electoral roll. We will challenge the present political scenario by making this movement a public movement, they added.

KBBB and ABAM pledged that adherence to the NBCC’s call for Clean Election would be strictly maintained and while stating their determination to work towards doing away with all the mal-practices by sensitising every member of the churches. Both the Associations pledged to disseminate the message of Clean Election to all corners of Nagaland to make this movement a public movement, the release stated.
