4410 untrained govt teachers in Nagaland

There are 4,410 untrained teachers in government schools in Nagaland, according to the Annual Administrative Report 2021-22 of Nagaland’s School Education Department tabled in the recently concluded state assembly session in Kohima.

District wise, Dimapur had the highest number of untrained teachers at 710, followed by Tuensang- 682, and Mon-631.

The report stated that the untrained teachers was a combination of teachers in the primary, upper primary, secondary and higher secondary levels. Among the other districts, Zunheboto had 586 untrained teachers, Mokokchung- 369, Kiphire-322, Wokha- 270, Peren- 265, Phek- 244, Kohima- 223, and Longleng- 108.

The untrained teachers in primary section were the highest with 2,179, followed by upper primary at 1,586, secondary at 524 and higher secondary at 121.

The overall percentage of trained teachers (Government) is recorded 77% for both primary and upper primary, secondary at 78% and higher secondary at 81%.

Over 1.6 lakh students in govt schools
Government schools in Nagaland has a total enrolment of 1,66,091 students.

Out of this, enrolment in respect of Class 1-5 formed the highest with 68, 208, followed by pre-primary with 38, 519; Class 6-8 at 34, 596; Class- 9-10 at 16, 178; and Class- 11-12 at 8,590.

19,079 teachers in Nagaland
The report stated that there are 19, 079 government teachers in Nagaland.

The strength of teachers in the primary section stood at 9, 278, followed by 6,788 upper primary teachers, 2,379 in the secondary- section and 634 at the higher secondary level.

The report also stated that there are 44 Government Higher Secondary School in Nagaland, 251 Government High Schools, 615 Government Middle Schools, and 1,043 Government Primary Schools.
