Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), Public Grievances Department (PGD) has claimed that Nagaland has an excess of about 70000 government employees, which it said was against the ministry of finance guidelines.
In a press release, NPCC PGD chairman S Supongmeren Jamir and co-chairman Kedou Watsah stated that as per the guidelines, the state salary for employees should not excess to more than 35% of the total budget.
However, PGD said that at present the state government expenses roughly 65% of the total budget and only 35% budget remains for development works.
NPCC also gave comparative figure of the employees in Nagaland and other North East states.

Pointing out that out of 1,44,177 government employees in the state 22,970 were “non-working employees”, the PGD asked the state government to clarify the stand and actions taken against those non-working employees. PGD asked the state government why was it silent over “this serious issue”.
It suggested accommodating the deserving genuine educated youths against those “non-working employees.”
PGD asserted that every citizen needed to have a sense of responsibilities “to ponder this menace specially in the field of employments avenues for up-coming generation.” PGD appealed to all the voters and citizens of the State specially the youth to restore the glory of “truth and honour of the Nagas society”.
Meanwhile, PGD has posed a series of question to the state government. It asked if the state government has any visions to generate the employments avenues by establishing factories industries and small-scale developments? PGD also asked whether the state government has got any visions to streamline to avail financial loans and facilities for youth from the financial institutions under the guardianship of the state government?
Further, it queried whether the state government was undertaking any MoU for marketing outlets with the other states especially for the farming products or the state government had no option but to accommodate all the unemployed youth to the state government departments with the access appointments making access expenses of all the State exchequer without having and scope of expansions and avoiding the developmental works in the states?
PGD questioned whether the state government would continue to make excuses of law and order problems, blaming unwanted elements extortionist activities “without realizing who is governing the Government?”
PGD questioned whether Nagaland would continue to become the “champion state” in the blame game without “any constructive sense of achievements between law makers, bureaucrats, technocrats and the citizens vice versa?”
