Situation turned tense in Dhodar Ali area (between Mariani and Golaghat) as locals of the area blocked the highway in protest against the road mishap on Monday that took the life of three members of a family.

According to reports, the three—mother, daughter and son in-law, died on the spot after the scooty in which they were travelling collided head-on with a Nagaland-based taxi (Tata Sumo) that was heading towards Mokokchung from Dimapur.

As per preliminary reports, Mokokchung police sources said that the taxi, with six passengers and the driver, lost control after a tyre burst and hit the scooty coming from the opposite direction.

Police, however, said that after Assam police intervened, the passengers reached their destination safely while the driver was taken into Assam police custody.

Travel advisory
Following the incident, ADC Mangkolemba, Dharam Raj issued travel advisory for citizens against travelling through the said route. ADC advised all Nagaland-bound/originating travellers via Assam to avoid taking the said route until the prevailing situation was calmed.
Further, all the Mokokchung-bound travellers have been advised to take Golaghat-Merapani-Champang-Sonowal route to avoid unnecessary harassment in Mariani, Assam.
