Kohima, February 7 (MExN): A huge quantity of Indian Manufactured Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and other banned substances were seized and destroyed on February 5 at Kisama Naga Heritage Village under the initiative of students, youths and women of Phesama and Kigwema.
According to a press release, the items were destroyed in the presence of Ruopfukuotuo Noudi, the SDO (Civil) of Jakhama, and hosts of village elders. The ‘seize and destruction’ ceremony was organised by Phesama and Kigwema Women Society led by Noudi and Neisakuolie Mera, the Head GB of Kigwema Village; Khriesino, President of Southern Angami Women Organisation; Beizo M Kuotsu, Chairperson Phesama Village; and Balie Kere, Chairperson, Kigwema Village.
On behalf of Jakhama Circle Administration, the SDO Civil expressed gratitude to the organisers for their initiatives against such unwanted social elements happening in the area and assured continued support of their good works, the release stated.
During the event, Advisor to Phesama Women Society Zasibeino Tacu highlighted the stand and activities of Kigwema and Phesama against sales of IMFL and illegal activities particularly at Kisama and stated that this joint venture of students, youths and women will be a continued process in phased manner. It is also informed that, the present case was endorsed to Department of Tourism for necessary further action including cancellation of permit/ allotment, the release stated.
Meanwhile, Khriesino Rita, President, Southern Angami, while applauding the initiatives of the two neighboring villages, reminded the gathering of ‘some past bitter memories’ at Naga Heritage Village and cautioned that such incidents should not reoccur. Chairperson of Kigwema Village Balie Kere also spoke on the occasion and highlighted on the devastating impact of indulging in alcohol and other substances.
The release further noted that the Naga Heritage Village Kisama which is run and managed by the Tourism Department has faced various “management loopholes” resulting in the sale of banned IMFL within the complex, much against the wishes of the local people.
