To add to the freezing temperature, Nagaland experienced a spell of showers on Saturday where hailstorms were reported in Kohima and other parts of Nagaland.
The temperature in Kohima was 6°C and in Dimapur it was 13°C. Snow continued to fall in and around Mt Japfü and Mt Saramati.
Meanwhile in Guwahati, hailstorm lasting for about 15 minutes lashed the city disrupting the celebrations of Saraswati Puja. According to reports, temperatures might further dip in the North East region, which is already reeling under a cold spell with heavy rain, snowfall, dense fog and thunderstorm over parts of the region in the next couple of days.
Guwahati Meteorological department observed that temperatures in the region are likely to fall during the day by (4-5)°C and below normal by (5-6)°C and the region may witness a rise in night temperatures by (3-4)°C. Warnings have been issued for certain parts of the region which may experience extreme weather phenomena.
“An east-west trough runs from the above cyclonic circulation to southwest Bihar and extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. A north-south trough runs from southwest Bihar to north Telangana across Chhattisgarh & Vidarbha and extends up to 15 km above mean sea level. The cyclonic circulation over west Assam & neighbourhood at 0.9 km above mean sea level has become less marked,” a regional weather report from the city Met department read.
From February 6-9, light rain is very likely to occur at isolated places over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, EM report stated.
