Meanwhile, thousands of protesters hit the streets demanding immediate declaration of Shamator district. Clad in traditional attire, the protesters held placards as they marched around the towns raising slogans.

Brief programmes were held at Pungro, Shamator and Chessore where the speakers reiterated their demand for Shamator district and made a fervent appeal to the State government to fulfil the long-felt aspirations of Yimkhiungs to live under one unified Yimkhiung district, i.e., Shamator.

Meanwhile, Yimkhiung women under the aegis of Yimkhiung Women Organisation (YWO) will spearhead Day-5 of the agitation at Shamator, Pungro and Chessore from 9 am on Friday. All Yimkhiung citizens, both young and old, have been asked to assemble in traditional attire at the respective town centres. This was stated in a press release by YTC.

On the other hand, Western Yimkhiung Hoho (WYH) has appealed to the State government to respect the aspiration of Yimkhiung community to live under one compact administrative headquarter.

In a statement, the hoho said the demand for Shamator district initiated by Yimkhiung Tribal Council was inclusive of all villages under its banner for the administrative convenience based on “tribal line”.

WYH urged the government to allow Yimkhiung community the freedom to determine and choose their own administrative headquarters and deliver justice to the citizens.
