DIMAPUR , December 9: A delegation of the Naga Hoho and Sümi Hoho along with its frontal organisations including Sümi Kükami Hoho, Sümi Kiphimi Küqhakulu accompanied by church leaders of Sümi Baptist Akukuhou Küqhakulu (SBAK) – Nito Mount visited Mon on December 7 and 8 respectively, to extend their solidarity to the families of the victims of Oting massacre on December 4.

Naga Hoho: The Naga Hoho (NH) delegation led by its president HK Zhimomi visited Oting village on December 7 to gather first-hand information.

In a press release, Naga Hoho media cell informed that during the visit, the eye witnesses of the incident apprised the delegation that “the genocide was not a mistaken identity as claimed but rather it was intentional for the reasons best known to the Indian Security Forces and their political masters”.

It was said that “the villagers have no connection with either the Naga national political groups or the Indian security forces”.

Eye witnesses also disclosed that when the victims were returning to their village after performing their daily wages, the “security forces laid ambush and indiscriminately fired upon the civilians despite the victims shouting they were innocent public”.

NH said that on hearing the gun shots, the villagers rushed to the spot to get to know what had happened however, the security forces “tried to hide those death bodies in their vehicle by wrapping the death bodies by the uniforms of Jawans to bluff the people that the slain persons were Naga national political groups”.

Later, Naga Hoho in the release said that when the villagers identified their men, they charged the jawans. During this, “the jawans indiscriminately fired at the public, thereby killing another seven persons on the spot” and causing injury to more.

The villagers also condemned the “distorted statement” of union home minister in the parliament where the home minister “misled the house by saying that the incident was a mistaken identity and also on self-defence”.

This, NH said, hurt the sentiments of the victims’ family in particular and the village of Oting in general as it had “added salt to the injuries”.

The public demanded the union home minister to “apologise publicly or take full responsibility for killing innocent public without any rhymes or reasons”.

Sumi bodies: The Sümi Hoho (SH) and its frontal organisations visited Mon town on Wednesday to pay homage to the families of the victims and to extend solidarity to the Konyak community.

In a press release, Sümi Hoho general secretary, Dr. Vihuto Asumi informed that the team convened a meeting with the Konyak Union (KU) and its frontal organisations where it expressed “strongest of resentment” over the massacre.

The team further conveyed its strong solidarity and assured every support to the Konyak community during these troubled times.

The Sümi Hoho, Sümi Kükami Hoho and the SBAK also extended financial support to the victims’ families through KU.
