Correspondent Dimapur, Dec 3:  The third Nagaland Film Festival Hornbill edition started at Capital Convention Centre, here on Friday afternoon with Nagaland chief secretary, J Alam as the special guest for the inaugural programme.

Chief secretary, J Alam in his address said films play an important role in a person’s life especially in this time and age of communication. He said the film industry had grown massively over the years and as a medium it had reached every nook and corner not only through the theatres and cinema halls but even through other internet platforms.

Alam said people in the organised film industry were opportune since entry into the field was extremely difficult and only the best people make the cut and become successful. He observed although entry into the film world was difficult, there were many other avenues where people could succeed in this time and age especially through the help of internet.

The chief secretary pointed out that many young people these days were creating their own stories, documentaries, short films, upload it on YouTube and become celebrities overnight. Taking all these into consideration, Alam said people of this age were living in very exciting times and that there was a huge opportunity waiting for them.

However, he said one main obstacle could be how to facilitate that opportunity and that was where Film Association of Nagaland (FAN) had come in and was playing the vanguard role while department of information and public relations was also trying to facilitate in the best way possible.

Earlier FAN president and renowned Naga film maker, Kivini Shohe, in a brief remark said film making in Nagaland was still in a very nascent stage, however, by coming together under the FAN umbrella, Kivini said the Naga filmmakers were striving to equip themselves to become better story tellers, cinematographers, editors, script writers, directors, producers and actors.

She pointed out that in the second edition of the film festival, only films from the northeast were screened during which the participants learned a lot about their neighbours and fellow filmmakers from the region.

“It was a good experience for all of us and this time with the festival becoming part of the Hornbill festival, we decided to have a mixed up screening of films,” Kivini said.

She wished that the participants of the festival would be enriched by the presentations and be able to widen their knowledge in the field of film making.

Shohe hoped that Naga filmmakers also would be able to come out with some good and outstanding works in the days to come.

During the inaugural, winners of the Online Film Competition 2021 organised by FAN in collaboration with Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) and Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), were announced.
