DIMAPUR, DEC 4 (NPN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president K Therie has condemned the alleged attack on churches by some Hindu organisations on December 1 in Karnataka.

In a statement, Therie also condemned the alleged action by BJP’s organs and their attitude, and the Karnataka government for its reported bias and ill-will against the Christian community.

According to Therie, since 2008, organisations like Bajrang Dal and Shri Ram Sena were attacking Christians and churches as per a plan. He said the attack on 14 churches within one hour in various places proved that this was pre-meditated.

Referring to adoption of anti-conversion laws in BJP-ruled States, he claimed that Christian population in India did not grow from 2.3% since Independence and yet BJP’s various organs allege forced conversions.

He further alleged that there was persecution of Christians with police arresting pastor and locking him with devotees, even as sangh parivar activists barged inside churches singing bhajans. He accused the police of giving friendly warnings to Christians and not to the sangh parivar activists, while BJP governments withdrew 23 cases of attacks on churches and Christians allegedly in retaliation for bogus forced conversions.
Quoting media reports, Therie claimed that there was little evidence of forced conversion and pointed out that religion was an acceptance by an individual’s inner heart.

He explained, “I believe God has created the universe. I believe in the miracle of Jesus Christ and I believe there is the Holy Spirit, which continues to speak to my inner heart and guide my conscience to do right.

Therefore, I have accepted Christ as my saviour and protector and His teachings as my religion. I have faith in Him that my prayers will be answered. I have faith that God will do everything right in His own time.”
And by doing so, Therie asserted that no individual offended either any religion or the Constitution of India.

He said every Christian that believed in Christ and had faith would surely admit that the Karnataka government was wrong. As a Christian State, he said it was shameful to have a government that was alien to persecution of Christians.
