Correspondent KOHIMA, NOV 7(NPN) : Headhunters emerged as the winners of the 21st NSF Martyrs Memorial Trophy by beating Mhakenyi Kro-u FC in the finals at IG Stadium, here on Saturday night.
The golden goal for Headhunters was scored by jersey no 5, Haotinmang, in the 27th minute, which helped the team win the much-coveted title and walked away with a cash prize of Rs.5 lakh.
Mhakenyi Kro-u FC failed to make any headway as the defence of Headhunters was impenetrable despite getting a few chances to equalise the score.
The highest scorer during the tourney was bagged by Yhunshalo Kemp from Mhakenyi Kro-u with a total of score 15 goals. Best Defender was bagged by Moirangthem from Fifa FC while Best Mid-fielder was bagged by Asito Krose from Mhakenyi Kro-u and Best Keeper was awarded to Ruokuovolie Phewhuo from Berenike FC Meriema.
Player of the tournament was bagged by Haotinmang, who walked away with a brand new scooty.
Minister PWD (housing and mechanical) minister Tongpang Ozukum was the guest for the closing ceremony while advisor printing & stationary and technical education, Medo Yhokha gave away the prizes. The tournament was organised by Angami Students’ Union.
It may be recalled that the trophy is organised in honour and remembrance of Lt. Kekuojalie Sachü of Kohima Village and Lt. Vikhozo Yhoshü of Kigwema Village, who were victims to an indiscriminate firing by Armed Police from Alichen on March 20, 1986.
