DIMAPUR, November 6 : Tokhü Emong & Mini Hornbill Festival 2021 began on Friday at public ground, Wokha with advisor, IT, science & technology and NRE, Mmhonlumo Kikon as special guest.
Extending Tokhü greetings, Mmhonlumo dwelt on the rich Lotha culture and expressed strong desire to prioritise and promote our culture and tradition.
He stressed on how storytelling was an important and powerful medium of communication and how discussions were essential for preserving one’s culture.
Mmhonlumo encouraged the gathering to contribute and strengthen the apex body in any capacity they can.
He stated that a few individual interests should not dilute the Lotha tribe and that they should rather support the apex body “Lotha Hoho” which he said would bring many changes and elevate the community.
He pointed out that Lothas may have stayed low for some time and that it was a time where we they should come out of the shallow and lead Nagas on the forefront.
The advisor called for an equitable, fair and just solution and urged the gathering to consider the sacrifices made by leaders of Lotha for the Naga cause.
He advised the people to clear negative thoughts on COVID-19 vaccination and urged them to get vaccinated. Mmhonlumo stressed on “unity in purpose” and encouraged the people to volunteer and sacrifice for the betterment of the community. Meanwhile, Witter Theological College (WTC), Vankhosung and Wokha Town Longsa Eloe Cultural Group presented Lotha cultural songs while Wokha Town Phiro Cultural Organisation presented a traditional folk dance.
Declaration of indigenous games competition was done by Lotha Hoho chairman, Mhondamo Ovung.
Earlier, the inaugural session was chaired by Lotha Hoho joint secretary, Amos Odyuo, in invocation prayer was said by Yikhum Baptist Church associate pastor, Sanjamo Odyuo and welcome address was delivered by Lotha Hoho advisor, N. Thungjamo Lotha.
The declaration of indigenous singing event of Tokhü Emong was declared open by accounts officer, DRDA, Wokha, Benrithung Kikon as special guest.
Vaccination booth to be installed at venue
Deputy commissioner (DC), Wokha Orenthung Lotha has informed that the Wokha District Task Force (DTF) for COVID-19 would install vaccination booth at the Tokhü Emong Mini Hornbill festival venue.
The DC informed that both first dose and second doses could be availed at the booth.
Further, the DTF has appealed to the public to come forward and avail the opportunity as responsible citizens.
