Phek district gets first private hospital

Correspondent KOHIMA, NOV 5 (NPN) : Planning & coordination, land revenue and parliamentary affairs minister Neiba Kronu inaugurated the first private hospital of Phek district at Pfutsero town on Thursday.

Former minister late L Mero first initiated the move to set up the hospital by using his commercial building and was supported by the planning department.

Newly inaugurated Mero Hospital and Diagnostic Center has 20 beds with four doctors and is led by Dr DK Mero as managing director (MD). The hospital has a diagnostic centre, ultrasound, ECG, x-ray and operation theatre. Addressing the inaugural function, Kronu observed that Pfutsero town had 60% of the Phek district’s total population and was surrounded by big villages, for which a need for a private hospital was long felt.

He expressed happing for being able to fulfil the vision of late Mero. He recalled that the former minister was eager to set up the hospital for the people and therefore even sacrificed his building and converted it into a hospital. With the opening of the private hospital at Pfutsero town, Kronu hoped that citizens from Phek and Kiphire districts would benefit.

He also said that an international bank would soon set up its branch at the town. Asserting that the state government was serious in developing Phek district, Kronu urged the people to extend cooperation and support the government’s initiatives.

Kronu also urged doctors of the hospital to work for the people, while seeking support from the citizens and appealing them to cooperate with the hospital.

Dr DK Mero shared a brief history of the hospital while Chakhesang Public Organisation president Mikha Kenye, Chakhesang Mothers’ Association president Zhonelü Tunyi and Pfutsero Town Welfare Committee convener Mezelo Lomi also spoke at the inaugural programme.

The speakers acknowledged the minister for his initiative and the development activities initiated by him for the people and urged the citizens to extend support to the initiatives.

Earlier, Rev Z Mero pronounced a dedicatory prayer before unveiling the plaque.
