Kohima , October 24: The two-day 20th biennial general conference of All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) concluded on Saturday with agriculture production commissioner (APC) Y Kikheto Sema as valedictory guest.
In his speech, inaugural guest, minister of higher education & tribal affairs, Temjen Imna Along acknowledged the exemplary leadership of ANCSU that has given a new trajectory to student leadership.
“Today’s Nagaland will bring about tomorrow’s Nagaland” he said and stressed on allowing meritocracy to be the zeal. He advised delegates to be practical agents of hope and not to narrow down to divisions.
Along also stressed on the need to speak facts and truth without fear of tribalism, nepotism and hypocrisy.
In his presidential address, ANCSU president, Vimeyiekho Vitso talked about the digital protest which was economic and effective, KSCJ land issue, and the issues on post matric-scholarship which was yielding positive result.
He also read out an application of appeal which was submitted to the minister of higher education by the Kohima Science College Teachers’ Association.
Meanwhile, NSF president Kegwayhun Tep reiterated the students to be problem solvers and not be mere degree holders.
A cultural presentation was presented by Kros College, Kohima, special number by Rokono Mekro and melody by SD Jain Girls College, Dimapur followed by conference remarks by tribunal general of ANCSU and release of souvenir by inaugural guest who also unfurled the union flag and dedicated the clock tower.
Speaking at the academic session, joint chief executive officer SDMA, Johnny Raungmei defined the role of scholars and wished for the new ANCSU office bearers to be facilitators and find new avenues for young graduates of our state. He added that young scholars need to advocate for inclusiveness and adapt the cultures of connect and prudent learning.
Folk fusion was presented by Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, melody by Phek Government College and special number by St. John College, Dimapur followed by vote of thanks proposed by finance secretary, ANCSU.
After the academic session, election of new office bearers was held where Y Kikheto Sema was the valedictory guest.
In his speech, Kikheto said that the long political struggle would come to a logical solution for the younger generation.
He encouraged to take up coffee plantation, rubber plantation and stated that “food security is possible when there is an availability of water security.” He concluded his speech saying the people need to “pray and plan for new Nagaland.”
Outgoing ANCSU president in his speech thanked former colleagues, pioneers and senior leaders for their guidance and support that helped him stand for the interest of the students’ community.
He assured his continuous effort to extent help and support to the union whenever needed.
ANCSU elects new president
Speaking at the conference as the elected president, Toito D Chishi expressed gratitude to all the voters for their faith in him and assured his dedication, sincerity and honesty in his tenure.
Introduction of the new office bearers was carried out by the election commission which followed by oath taking of new ANCSU team and dedicatory prayer.
The new team for the tenure 2021-2023 would be led by Toito D Chishi as president, Kahovi Z Rochill as vice president, Tenyesinlo Bukh as general secretary, S Topeka Yepthomi as speaker, Ikato Zhimo as assembly secretary along with nine other members.
At the programme, Sazolie College, Kohima presented a special number and words of gratitude was proposed by the ANCSU vice president. Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung was also awarded the “best discipline college” at the conference.
