ANCSU 20th biennial general conference underway in Kohima

Correspondent KOHIMA, OCT 23 (NPN) : The 20th biennial general conference of All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) on the theme “Heralding Tomorrow” commenced Friday at Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma.

Introductory guest, Nagaland College Principals Association NCPA President, Dr. Visakhonü Hibo in her speech congratulated the ANCSU team for leading the student community effectively stating that quality of education depended on the effectiveness or the compliancy of its constituents.


Stating that education should thrive for employability, she said that Nagaland education scenario was changing and Nagas should go from “mugging” to critical thinking and look towards functional literacy.

Dr. Visakhonü lamented how some colleges were “faring pathetically” and a mechanism ought to be developed to check quality education.

She said that theoretical education should not overshadow cognitive and critical thinking and advised the students to use the vehicle of quality education to herald a better, brighter tomorrow.

In her welcome note, KSCJ principal, Dr. Lily Sema expressed gratitude to ANCSU and participating delegates.

Asserting that all members were young, educated, vibrant and enthusiastic creating a powerful youth force, these people she said were the future of the nation.


She stressed on the need for a person with integrity and who could stand for the people, the right and speak the truth.

Dr. Lily maintained that students should learn to be hard working with high morality and accountability and develop respect for all to be future leaders who can handle responsibilities and pressures.

She also acknowledged ANSCU for competently taking up sensitive issues for the welfare of the students.

Angami Students’ Union (ASU) president Bisevi Nakhro in his greeting appreciated the works of ANCSU for the past 42 years and their unrelenting zeal to promote cooperation, unity, and encourage the student community despite the pandemic.

“As we work for a better society, let us not waste time scrambling over tribal issues, denomination issues, egoistic issues, or leadership issues and instead, we should make time to support one another and work hand in hand.”, he urged.

Baptist College, Kohima presented a special number while the ANCSU general secretary gave a report on the conduct of activities from the tenure 2019- 2021, which was followed by the union assembly.

Altogether 213 delegates from 38 colleges across Nagaland are attending the conference which would be concluded on October 23.

Former magazine secretary of ANCSU, Hikavi Kinimi chaired the function while the opening show was performed by students of Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma.
