Choubey visits NFMP at Piphema

DIMAPUR , September 21: Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Ashwini Kumar Choubey visited Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) site at Piphema Old village on September 20.

According to DIPR report, the minister expressed his admiration to the people, the landscape and also the huge forest coverage in the State.

He said that in spite of the land belonging to the community, the government projects through Nagaland Forest Management Project (JICA), the percentage of forest is increasing and improving which is an exemplary challenge to other parts of the country.

He stated that to improve and increase the rich biodiversity, people have to come forward to protect and save the forest.

On the occasion, the union minister also shared the message of Prime Minister to the people, “plant trees and save trees” and added that he was happy to address the Nagas with this message to urge and motivate the people to plant more and more trees.

“Planting trees be it traditional or medicinal will ultimate benefit the land, for better climate, for pollution Free State and a better land to live in”, he said.

Choubey also said that the government was willing to help the department and the state to improve the forest area.

Earlier, Choubey was accorded a ceremonial plantation at the project site. He appreciated the “affectionate gesture” showered towards him by the villagers and announced to aid a child financially from Piphema village.

DFO Dimapur, Beizo Suokhrie highlighted on the management of forest under the village and mentioned the village has been identified as one of the JICA village.

In this connection, the Piphema Old Village Council signed a resolution with the NFMP on February 11, 2020 and thus Piphema Old JFMC was included into the NFMP (JICA).

He further added that the village has a thick forest coverage which provides a rich variety of flora and fauna, owning to which the villages practice forest conservation.
