DIMAPUR, JUN 23 (NPN): State chief minister Neiphiu Rio inaugurated an oxygen generation plant at District Hospital, Phek on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Rio thanked UNDP India and Government of Japan for their support in setting up the plant in Phek district. “We are indebted to you both for this help, which strengthens our health facilities and furthers our ability to be able to succeed in mitigating this unprecedented health crisis,” he remarked.
He also sought continuous support of the public for the developmental activities that were taking place. Taking part in the inaugural programme via video conferencing, Japan’s ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to India, Suzuki Satoshi said: “Japan is always happy to provide development assistance to the Northeast, feeling a special closeness based on our shared history. I hope these oxygen generating plants will serve well and help as many the people as possible for a long time to come.”
UNDP’s resident representative in India Shoko Noda, on her part, said that the UNDP stood committed to supporting Government of India to fight Covid-19, in partnership with development partners and UN sister agencies.
“I am pleased that our several months of effort to provide end to end service, to install and set the oxygen generation plants up and running have come to fruition. Together, we can better prepare for future crises,” she added.
The programme was attended by H&FW minister Pangnyu Phom, planning & coordination, land revenue and parliamentary affairs minister Neiba Kronu, legislator Azo Nienu, senior government officials and public leaders.
