Dimapur to conduct aggressive testing, vax drive against Covid-19

DIMAPUR, JUN 24 (NPN): Team Dimapur on COVID-19, which held a coordination meeting Wednesday to take stock of the pandemic situation and plan out strategies for future course of action, has decided to carry out aggressive testing and vaccination in the district.

According to an official bulletin, the meeting held in the office of Commissioner Police Dimapur resolved that ongoing random testing in Dimapur would be conducted on a war footing till June 30, 2021 in crowded areas and markets. Stating that the testing was carried out for the safety of the general public, the team Dimapur has sought the cooperation of the citizens.

Deliberating on the issue of vaccination, Team Dimapur observed that the death rate was showing a declining trend as many people have started to take vaccine.

Acknowledging the state government for giving sufficient vaccination doses earlier for Dimapur district, the team Dimapur has further requested the government to provide more vaccines considering the high population of the district.

The team noted that presently available 13719 doses in the district could have a shortfall as the medical department would be taking up aggressive vaccination till June 30 throughout the district.

At the meeting, the nodal officer for Dimapur district and APC, Y Kikheto Sema, emphasised on the need for creating awareness among the people to continue to practice COVID-appropriate behaviour and get vaccinated. He said that the war was still on as the third wave was expected between September/October as per experts. He also lauded the district administration, Police and the medical department for working in close coordination.

DC Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan, said that the district was now better prepared and observed that the present restrictions in place has worked favourably. DC said the district would now have to prepare to fight the third wave. DC also expressed concern for business community and suggested taking a calibrated approach.

Commissioner Police (CP) Dimapur Rothihu Tetseo informed that from May 17 till date there has been around 400 penalties. He said that public response has been very positive.

Others who attended the meeting included, CMO and Dy.CMO Dimapur, Dr Kevi Theyo from District Hospital Dimapur, DMC administrator, and DPRO Dimapur.
