COVID-19 pandemic: Activities and vaccination drives

DIMAPUR , June 22: In order to tackle the surge in COVID-19 cases in the state and to stop further community spread, various activities are being undertaken by the government departments and CSOs in order to sensitise the public. Vaccination drives are also being conducted across the state to ensure the public remain protected.

Vaccination for business community in Kma: Kohima DTF on COVID-19 in collaboration with Kohima Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) organised a special outreach vaccination drive for high risk group, focusing on business community within Kohima town at KCCI Tower, Kohima on June 21.

Along with vaccination drive, screening for non-communicable disease was also conducted for beneficiaries. A total of 145 beneficiaries received their first dose from the age category of 18 to 45 years and 45+ during the outreach drive.

Awareness & vaccination drive for PWDs: Social welfare department, Tening in collaboration with administration & medical department organised an awareness-cum-vaccination drive for persons with disabilities (PWDs) at Tening CHC on June 21.

ADC and chairman SDTF for COVID-19, Tening, Rosietho Nguori briefed on the importance of Covid vaccination for PWDs and general. He said that vaccination was the only means to protect oneself from the virus and he encouraged the gathering to avail the opportunity offered to them. The ADC added that in case of any issue, the administration along with the medical team was willing to assist the people.

Short speeches were delivered by MO, AYUSH, Dr. Nuksung Jamir and disability representative, Cherachun. Poshan block coordinator, social welfare department, Dibin Nbung chaired the programme and proposed vote of thanks.

Special vaccination drive held at Kiphire: DTF Kiphire on COVID-19 and in collaboration with 7 Assam Rifles organised a special vaccination drive on June 20 at helipad ground, Kiphire. During the vaccination drive, 22 first dose and four second dose for 45 years above were administered. 149 beneficiaries between 18-44 years availed the vaccine.

Vaccination drive at Leangkonger village: CHC Shamator in collaboration with Assam Rifles, Shamtor battalion conducted a Covid vaccination drive at Leangkonger village, Tuensang on June 20.

MO, Dr. Mhathung gave a brief presentation on the importance of vaccination. Leangkonger village council acknowledged MO, CHC Shamator, Dr. Mhathung, MO AR Shamator battalion and Dr. Jacob and team for the initiative.

Sensitisation drive at Kiphire: With an aim to vaccine on the entire district, medical department, Kiphire carried out a sensitisation drive at Tethuyo village, Sangphure village, Sitimi village, Seyochung village and Phisami village on June 20.

Vaccination drive at Viswema: 600 beneficiaries of Viswema village, including the aged and PWDs were vaccinated over four days.

In a press release, Viswema village council (VCC) chairman Tebül Neikha and secretary Dühovil Rhetso thanked the government and medical department for making the vaccines free of cost. It also thanked the healthcare workers and Viswema CHC staff for providing the facility to the villagers at their doorsteps since June 9.

Distribution of relief packages for daily wage earners

Kiphire: SDO (C) James T. Khulu Tikhir launched the distribution of relief package for daily wage earners and labourers affected by the lockdown, here, at Kiphire local ground on Monday.

According to the official, a total of 1000 household have been listed as beneficiaries in the district. An official from District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kiphire also informed that identification of beneficiaries and distribution process are being initiated by concerned ward authorities/village councils along with administration officials in various sub-division and Kiphire headquarters. The relief package included rice, dal, mustard oil, sugar, salt, tea, bathing soap, washing soap, masala packet, onion, garlic and chilli powder. The relief items were arranged and provided by DDMA Kiphire, while volunteers from all the wards assisted in packaging and distribution. (Correspondent)

Niuland: Under the initiative of Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), the office of ADC, Niuland, distributed 800 relief packages to daily wage earners/labourers under Niuland sub-division on June 21 in the presence of the Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF). In a press release, WSYF vice president Otoka H Yeptho expressed gratefulness to the ADC for the initiative. The front also thanked the staff of ADC office and DBs for assisting in the packaging.

Bhandari: Distribution of relief packages under Bhandari sub-division began at Bhandari on June 21 at town hall, Bhandari, Wokha.
During the distribution programme, SDO (C) Bhandari & border magistrate, Merapani, T. Sulanthung Lotha expressed gratitude to the DDMA Wokha, for the assistance.

He informed that the same relief package would be provided to other administrative headquarters of Baghty, Champang and Merapani village, (Marachü Yan) by concerned administrative officers in the coming days.
Altogether, 300 beneficiaries availed the package in the presence of Lotha Hoho and Eloe Hoho, Bhandari Town, Lotha Lower Range public Organisation (LLRPO) Bhandari Town Students’ Union and GBs.
