DIMAPUR, JUN 20 (NPN): Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department in its weekly bulletin released on Saturday said that out of 375 Covid-19 deaths in the state (from February 2021), only one had been fully vaccinated (two weeks after the second dose) while another death was reported after the second dose (but death happened before 2 weeks of vaccination).
It pointed out that 99.7% of deaths reported after February have not been fully vaccinated. Stressing on the importance of vaccination, H&FW said that vaccines have proven to be effective against severe cases and deaths, as demonstrated by clinical trials and in real time, adding that vaccine provides very significant protection even by one dose after two weeks of vaccination.
H&FW further went on to state that no active healthcare worker in Covid-19 hospitals had succumbed to the virus despite them being at the highest risk of exposure, as most healthcare workers had been fully vaccinated.
Continuing the downward trend, Nagaland for the fourth consecutive week recorded a significant drop in the daily rise in fresh Covid cases and fatalities for the third week, with marked decline especially in the most affected districts– Dimapur and Kohima.
H&FW department said that for the first time in eight weeks, the sample positivity rate in the state had gone below 10%. “It has decreased from 23% at the start of the lockdown to 8% as of this week,” it added.
However, the department said that Mokokchung (22%) Kohima (12%) and Kiphire (10%) continue to have high weekly positivity rate. Further, the department pointed out that here had a -38% decline in cases from last week, except for Peren which had shown an increase in cases from the previous week.
State logs 94 fresh cases, 1 death: Nagaland on Saturday recorded 94 fresh Covid-19 positive cases– Dimapur-32, Mokokchung-18, Kohima-12, 11 each in Peren and Tuensang, nine in Phek and one in Wokha, taking the total caseload to 24,191.
Further, the death of one more patient in Kiphire, pushed the death toll to 468 (including 14 non-Covid deaths but with Covid positivity).
