Kohima: Amid the extended coronavirus-induced lockdown in Nagaland, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has appealed the state government not to shut down stationery and book stores.
The apex students’ body made the appeal with the hope that opening of stationery shops and book stores will help students to procure their basic requirements.
NSF president Kegwayhun Tep and general secretary Supuni Ng Philo, through a release, also urged the state government to maintain transparency in utilisation of COVID-19 funds.
The new NSF team also informed that it stands committed to the Indo-Naga political issue and shall leave no stones unturned to push forth for early settlement to the protracted Indo-Naga political issue vis-a-vis peace process.
In this regard, the federation appealed for peace and unity among the Nagas and further appealed all the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to “come together under one table for an early Inclusive, honourable and Acceptable solution to the protracted Indo-Naga political issue”.
Further, the federation called upon the government of India to expedite the process of Indo-Naga political dialogue with the negotiating parties and ink the final agreement to the protracted Indo-Naga political issue without delay.
It also informed that the federation is strongly of the view that effective implementation of e-governance is the need of the hour as it will bring about ‘transparency’ in governance.
It stated that access to accurate and updated information in regard to various state government’s functionaries, departments (including district administration) and agencies, such as schemes and programmes, incumbency list, post creations and vacancies, progress report of the department and vice versa, must be made readily available in the public domain in compliance with the laid down guidelines for departmental websites (GIGW), will enhance the level of citizen interaction through application of internet and mobile technologies while ensuring that the benefits are accessed by all citizens.
NSF strongly advocated for e-governance as a tool to bring ‘transparency’ as a powerful agent to check corruption in state governance.
In regard to the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB), the students’ body appealed the state government not to further delay the implementation of NSSB. “The state government should revise and resolve the reservation policy in the state within the legally permissible jurisdiction without delay,” it stated.
The federation also reiterated its commitment on the rationalisation of the SSA and RMSA teachers as per the agreement signed with the government on October 18 last year saying that the agreement must be “materialised in letter and spirit”.
“The federation shall no longer tread lightly on the matter if the State Government does not honour the aforementioned agreement,” it added.
