Dimapur, May 26 (MExN): A new COVID Hospital with 30 beds was inaugurated at the Nagaland Police Referral Hospital, Chümoukedima on May 25.
It was inaugurated by Chief Minister (CM) Neiphiu Rio in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, Ministers Pangnyu Phom and Neiba Kronu, Advisors Zhaleo Rio and Mmhonlumo Kikon, DGP Nagaland, APC Nagaland, Deputy Commissioner and Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, officials from Health and Family welfare Department and host of other dignitaries.
The CM expressed satisfaction with the hospital arrangements which includes 7 ICU beds, 5 oxygen beds and 15 oxygen concentrators.
He also inspected the upcoming 75-bedded COVID hospital in the same complex and expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work. DGP Nagaland, John Longkumer briefed the CM on the work progress and informed that the work was expected to be completed within 20 days.
Earlier, on arrival at Dimapur airport along with his entourage, the CM’s team was received by State Nodal officer for Dimapur district, Y Kikheto Sema, Dimapur DC and Commissioner of Police Dimapur. The team visited District Hospital Dimapur and PSA Oxygen Plant and held a brief interaction with the CMO and MS, a DIPR report stated.
Rio was briefed that the installation in of PSA oxygen Plant has been completed and would start functioning soon.
The team then proceeded to Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) to take stock of the alternative government hospital with 110 beds, arranged by the State government for catering to the underprivileged COVID patients free of cost. The visiting team was briefed about setting up of the required beds in the shortest possible time by Team Dimapur. The team later proceeded to CISHR to see the proposed site of the 176-bedded hospital which would be equipped with all healthcare facilities.
Director CISHR, Dr Sedevi, explained the layout of the proposed hospital to the visiting team and informed that the setting up of the hospital should be completed within a period of 2 months once the MOU has been signed and required material arrives.
The Chief Minister thanked Team Dimapur, frontline workers, civil societies, Church organizations and all concerned for joining hands in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
Virus should not spread to rural areas
Meanwhile, Rio asserted that the government’s priority was to not allow the spread of the virus in the rural areas of Nagaland and for which the government was undertaking aggressive vaccination drive and also strengthening the PHCs.
Interacting with media personnel on the sidelines during his visit to IHM on May 25, he informed that Noklak was the only safe district in the State so far.
Rio also informed that the government was trying its best to strengthen health care facilities in the State, particularly in Dimapur as the district accounts for more than 60% of the overall COVID-19 cases. He also said that efforts were being made to take care of COVID-19 patients living below poverty line and that the government is taking austerity measures to avoid putting additional burden on the common man.
