223 fresh COVID-19 cases; 14 deaths in Nagaland

Dimapur, May 24 (MExN): With the confirmation of 223 fresh COVID-19 cases, Nagaland’s cumulative tally of infections breached the 20,000-mark on Sunday. This is the 5th consecutive week that the gap between every 1000 COVID cases in the state was bridged within 4 days.

The new cases which were reported from the districts of Kohima (78), Dimapur (77), Tuensang (23), Phek (14), Longleng (11), Zunheboto (10), Mokokchung (5), Mon (3), and Kiphire (2), took the state’s tally to 20,068.

According to the daily bulletin issued by the state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), the new cases were detected out of 1,194 samples with a daily sample positivity rate of 20.05 percent. Of the fresh cases, 122 were detected among traced contacts, 79 through self testing and random sampling, 13 were frontline workers, 5 from returnees/travellers, and 4 from the armed forces/security personnel.

A total of 14 more COVID-19 deaths were also reported on Sunday—the highest single-day fatalities in the state so far, pushing the cumulative death toll to 274. This is excluding 11 other deaths that were categorised as ‘not COVID related’ in the IDSP bulletin.

On the other hand, at least 137 COVID-19 patients also recovered from Dimapur (95), Kohima (26), Tuensang (5), Mon (5), Peren (3), and Phek (3). The cumulative recovered cases increased to 14,500.

4,678 active cases
The state’s current active cases tally is 4,678 with 4,323 asymptomatic cases, 178 mild symptomatic cases, 56 moderate cases on oxygen, 87 severe cases in oxygen, 22 cases in ICU without a ventilator, and 12 cases in ICU on ventilator.

Dimapur has the highest number of active cases at 2,547, followed by Kohima with 1,486 and Mokokchung with 135. Among the other districts, Mon has 104 active cases, Zunheboto (93), Tuensang (89), Phek (79), Longleng (51), Kiphire (40), Wokha (35), and Peren (19).

A total of 605 patients have migrated to other states, as per the IDSP bulletin.
