To rope-in doctors and nurses from each district

As the count of COVID-19 positive cases continue to mount and healthcare facilities struggle to accommodate patients, officials in Dimapur have inspected and identified government infrastructures to start a 100-bedded COVID-19 hospital on priority basis to ease the congestion.
Nodal Officer for Dimapur district’s COVID-19 activities Y Kikheto Sema along with the Dimapur Deputy Commissioner, Chief Medical Officer and other officials conducted the inspection on May 15.
“We are satisfied with the identified location to start the COVID hospital and the government has decided to rope-in one doctor and two nurses from each district except Kohima and Longleng to run the hospital,” Kikheto said, following the inspection.
The new facility will be set up at the Institute of Hotel Management, Dimapur.
Subsequently, the nodal officer held a meeting with district administration, police, medical and other concerned departments at DC’s conference hall and directed all concerned entities to work towards making the new COVID-19 hospital functional within the next 10 days.
He said although the hospital would initially be started with 100-bedded capacity, it can be increased to 300-beds and the intake capacity would be gradually increased. Kikheto said that the target is to start functioning of the hospital in 10 days and added that the upcoming COVID hospital would treat mild and moderate patients.
Kikheto said Dimapur shoulders the huge responsibility of receiving people by road, rail and air, and patients from other districts were rushing to Kohima and Dimapur where better healthcare facilities are available. “Given this huge responsibility and the current status of more than 2000 COVID-19 positive patients in Dimapur, the government has taken the right decision,” he added.
The nodal officer also appealed retired doctors, nurses and healthcare workers to come forward in assisting the government and be a part of Team Dimapur in fighting the pandemic.
Noting that many patients were struggling with anxiety, stress and tension not only because of the disease but due to unverified viral messages on the social media, Kikheto cautioned that stern action would be taken against those spreading fear and panic with fake materials. He instructed the DC and Commissioner of Police to initiate appropriate action against those responsible for spreading false contents and “going beyond LoC.”
The nodal officer also emphasised on the importance of strong mental health and positive attitudes during such times, and underlined the need to create awareness amongst the general public so that they do not over emphasise on COVID but rather be disciplined and listen to the instructions of the authorities. He noted that e-counselling services would be made available, especially for those who are under home isolation or quarantine.
