Team Dimapur visits health institutions for ground assessment
DIMAPUR, MAY 15 (MExN): The Dimapur COVID-19 management team today visited health institutions in Dimapur and assessed preparedness to tackle the rising number of COVID cases in the district.
The team led by Nodal Officer for Dimapur district, Y Kikheto Sema, IAS, comprised of Dimapur DC, Rajesh Soundararajan and Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr Antoly Swu.
During the visits to the health care institutions, the Nodal Officer viewed that there was urgent requirement for creation of more hospital beds with the ever increasing number of COVID-19 cases particularly in Dimapur District. He urged upon the doctors, nurses and staff to be mentally prepared for the worst even with the existing facilities and infrastructure.
He expressed appreciation to all health care workers and frontline workers for their tireless efforts and further encouraged them to treat their services as an opportunity in their lives which he said might be a blessing in disguise.
At the Assam Rifles Composite Hospital, the team interacted with doctors and staff led by DIG, Dr AC Bhardwajan. The team was briefed on the infrastructure and the existing facilities at this 50 bedded COVID designated hospital. The Nodal Officer suggested for finding ways to accommodate more beds to cater to the patients from neighboring villages. Dr Bhardwajan said that he would put up the matter to the higher authorities.
At Police Hospital, Chümoukedima, DIG Aotemsu briefed the Nodal Officer on the plan to make the Health Centre functional at the earliest. Sema urged the Nagaland Police led by DIG Aotemsu to use the existing facilities of manpower to make the Police Hospital accommodate at least 30 beds by way of making make-shift arrangements.
The Nodal Officer noted that Nagaland Police has “never let down the image of the state in any way” and therefore appealed to the police personnel present at the Police Hospital to be mentally prepared to face the worst of crisis. He said the present staff of 4 doctors and 12 nurses should start managing the PHC and if the need arose, other medical personnel from Nagaland Police can be drawn to Chümoukedima from other battalions.
The team also visited Zion Hospital and Research Centre and interacted with the management and staff there. The team was told that the hospital had kept 6 beds for COVID-19 patients, which would start operations soon. However the Nodal Officer requested the hospital authorities to reserve at least 10 beds for COVID-19 patients and to start functioning from May 15. He stressed that given the rise in infections health care institutions would have to priotirise COVID related cases.
At Faith Hospital Dimapur, Managing Director, Dr Sukhato Sema told the visiting team that out of the existing 70 beds, 41 beds have been reserved for COVID-19 patients. The team was also briefed about the make-shift arrangements being carried out at the hospital premises to accommodate more patients. Dr Sukhato Sema expressed willingness to convert the entire hospital beds and facilities for COVID-19 purposes if the need arose. The Nodal Officer appreciated the gesture shown by Dr Sukhato Sema and said that “such humanitarian approach will go a long way in boosting the morale of those working tirelessly in the fight against COVID-19.”
The team also visited Eden Hospital and interacted with the management and staff at the Hospital. Here, the Nodal Officer was briefed by the management on the difficulties of accommodating COVID-19 patients. However the Nodal Officer advised the management to look at the possibilities of setting up make-shift and temporary structures to meet the requirements of handling COVID patients. He stated that the government is supporting all private hospitals who are admitting COVID-19 patients by providing oxygen cylinders and oxygen concentrators.
