Nagaland will officially begin the much-anticipated vaccination drive for the age-group 18-44 years from May 17 onwards. 36,580 vaccine doses arrived in the state on May 12.
The vaccination drive will be held in 24 session sites on Monday and 28 sites on Tuesday, the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare announced in an official release on May 13. Every Monday and Tuesday has been reserved for vaccination of the age group at designated COVID-19 Vaccination Centre (CVC).
The registration and booking for the aforesaid age group will start on May 14 at 9:00 am as per the slot available for each CVC.
The Morung Express had earlier reported that a total of 4 boxes of vaccines were delivered to Nagaland on Wednesday but vaccination for the aforesaid age group will not start right away as the state health authority is trying to catch up with the vaccination of certain priority groups in the next 3 days.
The doses were ordered by the State to start the vaccination of the age group on payment from the Serum Institute of India (SII).
Meanwhile, the DOHFW further stated that registration on CoWIN or Arogya Setu is mandatory for all beneficiaries to get the vaccination and no on-site registration would be entertained.
Those with previous registered still need to book a slot at any designated CVC, it said. The registered beneficiaries are further directed to come to the CVC with same photo identity uploaded on CoWIN or Arogys Setu App. All beneficiaries must also maintain Covid appropriate behaviour and no person with COVID-19 like symptoms would be allowed entry into the CVCs, the release added.
A total of 7,450 doses – 3,650 on Monday and 3,800 on Tuesday – are scheduled to be administrated during the first cycle of vaccination for the 18-14 age group.
According to district-wise session sites and capacity for vaccination provided by DOHFW, in the first cycle on Monday and Tuesday, the maximum slot is given to Dimapur with a total of 1,850 doses at 8 session sites.
At 1000 slots, Mokokchung is second, followed by 800 in Wohka and Zunheboto. Phase-III of the vaccination drive for the 18-44 age group began on May 1, but the process is yet to gather momentum in most States/Union Territories due to reported shortage of vaccines.
According to a State health official, the MOHFW allocates the vaccines on the basis of population, cases, etc and more consignments will arrive in later months.
