26,500 COVID vaccines for State in phase-I

Correspondent KOHIMA, JAN 13 (NPN) : COVID-19 vaccine consignment for the State will arrive at Dimapur on Thursday, officials from the directorate of Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) informed Nagaland Post. Along with the rest of the country, Nagaland will roll out COVID vaccination programme on January 16 after Prime Minister Narendra Modi launches it officially in New Delhi.

The vaccine comprising two types – Covidshield and Covaxin – will be made available by the Government of India free of cost through the existing cold chain of the immunisation programme in a phased manner.

Altogether 3,99,447 persons, including healthcare workers in both private and government sectors, frontline workers and persons above the age of 50 years, in Nagaland will receive the vaccine in a phased manner from January 16.

Steering committee for vaccine meet: Centre is supplying 26,500 COVID vaccines to Nagaland in the first phase, which would be administered to the Central and State health workers and the State police.

According to a DIPR report, this was revealed by principal secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Amardeep Bhatia, at the second meeting of the State Steering Committee for COVID -19 Vaccine, which was held under the chairmanship of the state chief secretary in the Civil Secretariat Conference Hall on January 13, 2021. The vaccination drive would begin on January 16, 2021 which would be followed by the second and third phases.

Bhatia informed that the vaccine would be delivered shortly and all elaborate arrangements have been made for transportation to all districts. He also briefed the meeting that the first phase session sites have been arranged and was ready. He also informed that the vaccine would be administered in two doses and would take effect only after 14 days after the second dose. He stated that people would need to keep following the COVID appropriate behaviour till the period was completed.

The principal secretary sought cooperation and support from various departments of the state government once the vaccinations starts in the State. He also called for carrying out awareness information and programmes across the State to curb the menace of fake news and rumours related to the COVID-19 vaccine.

India’s drive against COVID-19 gathered momentum on Wednesday with planes carrying vaccines flying into airports across the country.

The second batch of the COVID-19 vaccine– 12000 doses arrived at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati, on Wednesday. A private cargo flight transported the indigenously developed ‘Covaxin’ and the consignment was handed over to state government officials.

It may be noted that Guwahati airport has been made the nodal hub for distribution of COVID vaccine across the seven states in the region. For this, a part of Guwahati airport’s domestic terminal has been turned into a nodal hub for receipt, storage and supply of the vaccine.

According to reports, 95% of the 1.1 crore doses of Covishield vaccine purchased by the Centre have been delivered and shipped to nearly 60 consignee points across India in two days.
